MSU Formula Racing Team

Car 51 is starting to look like a race car now! The chassis is being finish welded as we speak and many of the components of the race car are being fabricated. Check out some of the pictures posted under Car 51 manufacturing. We will begin to post video’s of team member’s progress with Car 51 as we progress through the Spring Semester. The fall semester at Michigan State has come to an end, and team members have finished with their classes and exams. As the team begins its most intense period of fabrication over winter break, we would like to wish all of our friends and supporters the very best this holiday season. The MSU Formula Racing Team competed this past weekend on Saturday, November 6th, at the 2010 Big Ten Shootout. The shootout took place at Grissom Air Force Base and was hosted by Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin. A number of teams from the Big 10 were in attendance for a fun filled day of racing and testing. Autocross and Endurance rounds were held, with MSU taking 3rd place overall. The MSU Formula Racing Team completed very successful testing sessions at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI on September 25-26 and October 23-24. The team was able to run Car 71 on skidpad, acceleration and autocross courses very similar to what will be seen at the 2011 FSAE Michigan Competition, which will also be at MIS. As our summer vacations come to an end and classes resume, fall recruitment has begun for students interested in joining! As always, no previous knowledge is required. The only requirements are a positive attitude and the willingness to put forth hard work to produce a winning car. Also, every major is needed on the team. The MSU Formula Racing Team traveled to Traverse City this past weekend for the annual Cherry Festival Parade, which featured our newest car, Car 71. The team cruised through the downtown streets of Traverse City with the MSU Alumni Association, the MSU Cheer Leading Team, and Sparty. The parade was a huge success as the team received support and cheers from the thousands of spectators and enthusiastic Michigan State fans. The team traveled to Michigan International Speedway last week to compete in the 2010 FSAE Competition. Overall the team did very well taking home a 24th overall finish. Highlights of the competition included a 12th place finish in acceleration, 7th place finish in Presentation and the completion of the endurance event; an event which nearly 50% of the FSAE teams cannot finish. The energy that rushed through the team as Car 71 completed it’s last lap in endurance was unbelievably satisfying....

Michigan State University continued to build upon its long-standing relationship with the University of Florida by inviting them use their facilities in the days just prior to FSAE East. The Gators joined the Spartans for some last minute testing and to make any last minute adjustments to their vehicle before they left East Lansing for the Michigan International Speedway. FT Techno, part of AISIN, granted access for MSU to use their Fowlerville proving grounds on Saturday, May 8th. The proving grounds are a vast complex encompassing over 3000 acres of testing facilities including multiple acceleration runs, a 20-acre dynamic pad, and a 3-mile long test track. All tracks were meticulously groomed and the surface was outstanding. FT Techno engineers also assisted the team in the installation of a VBOX Data Logger system on Car 71, which allowed the team to acquire...
