MSU Formula Racing Team

The team is well underway in it’s manufacturing process for our newest Formula Race Car, Car 71. We would like to thank all of our Sponsors who have continously supported our program and welcome those who are new to our organization. We are extremely excited for the upcoming FSAE Season as we are begining the manufacturing phase of Car 71. Team members have been working relentlessly at the shop preparing the chassis molds for paint and its first lay-up of fiberglass.

As the snow begins to fall on the beautiful MSU campus, our team continues work on Car 71, putting in tremendous effort to make it the best Michigan State formula car yet. Without support from our sponsors and fans, however, none of our efforts would be possible. So, we would like to extend a special thanks to all of those who have contributed to our team or have supported us through the years. Alumni, students, parents, and sponsors all make our program possible.

On November 1st, the Michigan State Formula Racing Team held its annual Sponsor Drive, inviting sponsors, family, and friends to check out the new car, mingle with the team, and even test drive our previous models.

This year’s sponsor drive was also the first time guests could take a first-hand look at Car 12, our team’s next FSAE installment. A carbon fiber monocoque system, Car 12 is a landmark for our team. So thanks to all who attended the sponsor drive, and we hope you had a great time!

Big thanks to Logic Supply who donated the computer for Car 12! The computer is utilized as an on-board Telemetry Computer which reads in the data from our Data Logger and Engine Controller Unit (ECU) via the available USB ports. Utilizing the on-board system allows the team to increase the efficiency of testing sessions with the ability to review engine parameters and various other data channels in real, time via a USB radio modem, without having to sacrifice the conditions produced by simulated endurance sessions.

Additionally, trackside engineers can diagnose any conditions or problems without driver distraction. This compact unit is light and easily packages into our chassis and electrical system, thereby minimizing the weight added to the car and demand on the electrical system. As an investment, the future of our telemetry computer will involve remote adjustment of control systems with prescribed parameters to help us understand how our car responds to our engine control systems and quickly determine how to adjust our control systems to give us the fastest times on the track. Our telemetry computer gives us the advantage we need to take home the 1st place trophy.
