The Michigan State University College of Engineering began as a single field of study in 1885, and currently comprises the Departments of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The college also houses many research centers and laboratories, which vigorously promote the interdisciplinary collaboration of faculty members with each other and with other MSU departments, other universities, and the general public.

A $34.5 million addition and renovation in 1989 provided 167,000 square feet of space for laboratories, classrooms, offices, and the engineering library. In 1997, the building underwent a $14-million, 46,000-square-foot addition accommodating the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Institute for Materials Research, one of the premier facilities in the world for the study of composite materials. Other facilities include the Engineering Research Complex; the Energy and Automotive Research Laboratories (EARL); the Jolly Road Research Facility; the Civil Infrastructure Laboratory on Jolly Road; the Automotive Research Experiment Station located in the Hulett Road Research Facility; and the Advanced Materials Engineering Experiment Station. This facility moved back to campus from Midland, Michigan in 2002 and is part of the Composite Materials and Structures Center.

The mission of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) is to support its membership through legislative and industry representation, educational programs and communications, and community relations activities. Founded in 1907 by a group of five Detroit-area auto dealers after they hosted the very first Detroit Auto Show in the same year, today, the DADA membership includes more than 250 new-vehicle dealers who own 240 dealerships-selling 40 different vehicle lines in 64 cities throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. The dealers are affiliated with the DADA through one or more of 15 vehicle line groups, or through individual membership. Currently, DADA members collectively employ more than 16,500 people. Ninety-eight percent of new-car and new-truck dealers in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties are members of the DADA. Currently, DADA members have an average of 26 years experience in the auto industry. One of the chief goals of the association is to promote the integral role that the motor vehicle plays in the economy of our nation and the world. Many of the members of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association participate in the NAIAS, LLC, which is responsible for the production of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The DADA members support their communities through charitable involvement. In fact, more than 75 percent of them donate their time and resources to two or more charitable organizations. The most significant charitable venture of the DADA is the annual NAIAS Charity Preview, which has raised more than $44 million for children's charities in southeastern Michigan since 1976, with more than half of that in the past four years alone. In 1998, the DADA founded the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund, one of the benefiting charities of the NAIAS Charity Preview, to support charitable organizations and activities that assist children and youth.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1898 by 38-year-old Frank Seiberling. He purchased our first plant with a $3,500 down payment using money he borrowed from a brother-in-law. The timing couldn't have been better. The bicycle craze of the 1890s was booming. The horseless carriage was a wide-open challenge. On Aug. 29, 1898, Goodyear was incorporated with a capital stock of $100,000.
From those humble beginnings, Goodyear has grown into one of the world's leading tire companies; currently being the number 1 tiremaker in North America and Latin America and the second largest tiremaker in Europe. Together with its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Goodyear develops, markets and sells tires for most applications. Currently, Goodyear operates more than 60 plants in 26 countries.
Our winged-foot trademark was inspired by a newel-post statuette of the Roman god Mercury in the home of Goodyear founder Frank Seiberling. Seiberling felt Mercury embodied many of the characteristics for which Goodyear products were known.

Ford Motor Company is an American multinational corporation and the world's third largest automaker based on worldwide vehicle sales. Based in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, the automaker was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. Ford's overseas business encompasses only one truly global brand (Volvo of Sweden) other than the Ford brand itself, but it also owns a one-third controlling interest in Mazda of Japan and a small holding in former subsidiary Aston Martin of England. Its former UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover were sold to Tata Motors of India in March 2008, both companies having been through many changes of ownership in the recent past. Lincoln and Mercury are also Ford's aspirational brands in the USA, but not in the rest of the world. Ford also sold the brand names of Daimler (excluding certain rights sold to Germany's Daimler AG), Lanchester, and Rover to Tata Motors of India.
Ford was also the overall seventh-ranked American-based company in the 2007 Fortune 500 list, based on global revenues in 2006 of $160.1 billion. In 2007, Ford revenues increased to $173.9 billion, while producing 6.553 million automobiles and employing about 245,000 employees at around 100 plants and facilities worldwide. Also in 2007, Ford received more initial quality survey awards from J. D. Power and Associates than any other automaker, with five vehicles ranking at the top of their categories, and fourteen vehicles ranked in the top three.
Ford introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars and large-scale management of an industrial workforce, using elaborately engineered manufacturing sequences typified by moving assembly lines. Henry Ford's methods came to be known around the world as Fordism by 1914.
