Toronto Shootout in Pictures
The 2007 Toronto Shootout turned out to be another great showing for Car 9 and the MSU Formula Racing Team. Arriving early on Saturday morning before registration, the team anxiously waited for the gates to Mosport International Raceway to be opened for another big day of head to head racing with some of the fastest teams in North America. As the team entered the gates into the paddock area, the anticipation that each team member had that morning quickly turned into sheer determination and desire to win.
As the team leaders and members unloaded the car and set up in the paddock, the three drivers chosen for the event attended the drivers meeting, and walked the track they would be racing on. Brandon Goad, Andy Gryczan, and Jordan Smart carefully walked the track and took notes on the best lines to take around the course. The track was fairly similar in orientation to the 2006 Toronto Shootout course, so senior Team Leaders Goad and Gryczan knew what to expect, as they had driven the 2006 course the year before.
Shortly after the drivers meeting, the first competitors were allowed out on the track. As the fresh layers of rubber were being laid on the course, the MSU team strategized and came up with the driver order for the day. Car 9 was only allowed two laps around the course at a time, so driver order became crucial in order to get the best cumulative lap times possible for the team. Given this, the optimum driver order was Goad, Smart, and then Gryczan.
More to come...
