MSU College of Engineering Design Day, MSU Union, MSU, East Lansing, MI
The fall semesters' Design Day, now spread over two days, was again a splendid affair this year. The team set up a nice display in the second floor atrium of the MSU Union Building, which unfortunately required the car to be carried up two flights of stairs. On day 1, Thursday 6 December, teammates had the chance to talk to visiting middle school kids, alongside EGR 100 design projects. Friday, 7 December, and the traditional day to hold the event, saw the Union packed with not only visiting high school students, but also projects from Electrical, Computer Science and five Mechanical Engineering students. The display was in a constant swarm of people of all ages throughout the day.
MSU Formula Racing Team members showed their exemplary caliber of abilities through top placements in many courses. Chassis Team Leader Paul Strefling and former Powertrain Electrical Team Leader Ben LeVesque and their group mates took first place for their Electrical/Mechanical capstone design project in ECE 480, and Powertrain Mechanical Team Leader Andrew Gryczan and Suspension system team member Johannes Hertrich and their group won the Leonardo da Vinci award for design excellence in ME 471. Additionally, former Lead Driver and Cockpit Team Leader Brandon Goad and his group mates became third place Thomas Edison scholars for their work to design and manufacture a floor hockey walker for 11-year-old Joseph Wise who has cerebral palsy. The green and white walker featured MSU logos embroidered into the seat cushions and was one of the hits projects of the event. Congratulations to all team members involved!
