It started in 1968 as a dream of William Steiner, an East Lansing High School faculty member in choral and vocal music. A dozen talented singers from the Lansing area were hand-picked and began practicing weekly. Soon they were giving public performances. The Steiner Chorale, under Mr. Steiner's leadership and guidance, flourished and developed a regional reputation for singing quality music, including familiar as well as non-traditional works.

Following Mr. Steiner's death in 1971, the group disbanded and did not perform for a few years. But a great idea had been born; one too good to be ended. The Chorale was reorganized in 1975 and gradually expanded to a permanent membership of over 30 singers. This semi-professional choir has attracted gifted conductors, including David Lantz, David Strickler, Mike Steiner, Robert Harris, David Wallis, and Robert Hundley. Dr. Judith Burns was named Musical Director and Conductor in 1998.

The Steiner Chorale is committed to excellence in choral performance, with a vision to be one of the premier choral organizations in the mid-Michigan area. If you would like to be considered when auditions are open please contact the Director or the President of the Chorale.
