Undergraduate Studies

Welcome to the Undergraduates Studies Office (UGS).  Our team provides a variety of support services, starting from outreach activities to connect K-12 students to engineering, through recruiting freshmen and transfer students, providing academic advising to our students, offering the Cornerstone (first-year) Engineering courses and assisting students in reaching their career goals.  The Engineering Undergraduate Studies Office mission statement can be viewed here.

Daina Briedis, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Student Advancement and Program Assessment
Dr. Briedis' primary responsibilities include coordinating programs and activities focused on our Honors College students, undergraduate researchers and other high achievers, and overseeing assessment and quality improvment efforts within the college. In addition, she assists the Associate Dean in a variety of college activities.

The Advising Center provides academic advising for all engineering undergraduate students; conducts the Academic Orientation Program; certifies degree completion and athletic eligibility; and administers students records processing and enrollment functions.

CORE  (COrnerstone and REsidential Experience) for Spartan Engineers

The CORE program provides a living-learning opportunity for early engineering students that provides curricular first-year design and co-curricular professional experiences, centered in the Wilson Residence Hall, all aimed at fostering the success and professional engagement of our students from the first day at MSU. The success of our program is facilitated by our partner/sponsors, Consumer's Energy and GE.

The Cornerstone Experience program provides an early design experience through EGR 100 (Introduction to Engineering Design) and EGR 102 (Introduction to Engineering Modeling), a two-course sequence for first-year students. The Cornerstone program provides muliptle hands-on, team-based design projects for over 1000 students per year.

The Engineering Residential Experience is a living-learning program for early engineering students.  Through projects, seminars, fireside chats, field trips and related activities, students make early connections to the engineering profession and the challenges of the 21st century. Common class schedules, tutoring, peer mentors and other resources assist with fostering student success.

The Engineering Study Abroad Office assists students with study abroad programs that educate students globally through strong partnerships between MSU and universities abroad.  Additionally, the Engineering Study Abroad Office assists faculty with development and support for study abroad programs.

Director, Applied Engineering Sciences
The Applied Engineering Sciences major offers students an engineering education stressing breadth across disciplines that is integrated with a business core. Students select one of four concentrations including Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, Technical Sales, and Telecommunications.

The broad goals of CEER are engage faculty in engineering education research, leverage that research, act as a catalyst for large-scale funded projects in the College, and act as a resource for other both undergrad and graduate programs that involve training or retention.
