St. Louis, Michigan

St. Louis is located in the geographic center of Michigan's lower peninsula. The city has experienced a decline in commercial and industrial investment in the last 15 years, and has a reputation for being polluted and unsightly due to the presence of the Velsicol Chemical Company Superfund site. The city has identified between 30 and 40 potential brownfields properties that could be readily developed if a cohesive strategy were developed and implemented to move toward sustainable development.

As a recently awarded Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Pilot, TAB has been providing general brownfield assistance along with the EPA Community Involvement Outreach Center (CIOC). Brownfield 101 education is scheduled to various city and community groups this summer with a brownfield kick-off meeting scheduled for September 2001.
