Saginaw, Michigan

Saginaw is located approximately 100 miles north of Detroit, at the northern end of Michigan's industrial corridor and near the gateway to the State's recreational areas. The city has hundreds of idle and abandoned former industrial and manufacturing sites with more that 800 abandoned properties in the central business district reverting back to the City or State ownership.

The educational workshop entitled "An Informative Update on Brownfield Redevelopment Initiatives and Incentives" was also held in April with assistance from the Consumers Renaissance Development Corporation (CRDC). The workshop featured guest speakers from both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

GLMAC/TAB is working on an educational booklet addressing Clean-Up Alternatives that is targeted for communities such as Saginaw that are actively in the process of assessing sites for redevelopment.

GLMAC/TAB along with MSU Center for Urban Affairs and Saginaw decided not to pursue opportunities for Brownfields Job Training as mentioned in the last update. A survey of the local job opportunities did not provide enough incentive to apply for the grant.
