Community Meetings

March 24, 2004

On Wednesday, March 24, 2004, the Technical Outreach Services for Communities (TOSC) held a public information meeting sponsored by Scio Residents for Safe Water (SRSW) and the City of Ann Arbor. During this meeting Susan Masten, Ph.D., Professor of Environmental Engineering, at Michigan State University, presented information about the treatment options Pall is proposing and important considerations with those treatment options, focusing particularly on the injection of hydrogen peroxide into the Unit E aquifer. Larry Lemke, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer at Wayne State University presented information on the hydrogeology of the aquifer system with emphasis on the extent of the E-plume, where the gaps in understanding are, and how the plume could be modeled. Along with the presentations by Drs. Masten and Lemke, TOSC provided other informational materials. These were: (to view click each document):

At the meeting, MDEQ representatives requested written comments from Dr. Masten on her concerns over the in-situ injection of hydrogen peroxide by PLS. On April 2, Dr. Masten submitted comments on behalf of the TOSC Program. Those comments can be viewed by clicking here (word doc, pdf).

In response to TOSC’s comments, MDEQ submitted a letter to PLS, indicating the need for additional monitoring during the injection. MDEQ’s letter can be read by clicking here (word doc, pdf).
