Workstations

There are 3 SGI workstations and 2 Sun IPX workstations.
  • Indigo2 High Impact MIPS R10000
  • Indigo2 Extreme MIPS R8000
  • Indy MIPS R4600
All the workstations are linked with each other and also connected to Michigan State's computer network.

The workstations are being used for the reduction and processing of velocimetry data (MTV) and for volumetric rendering of LIF images. User disk capacity for the projects performed on the workstations is 6 GByte. If this is not enough disk space it is possible to backup the data using one of our Exabyte 8505 tape drives with backup capacities of 7+ GByte per tape.

The TMUAL also has a variety of PCs ranging from 386s to a Pentium. These PCs host several A/D, motion control, and image acquisition boards. All the PCs are connected with each other via ethernet connections. The same ethernet connections network the PCs to the MSU computer net.
