Costa Rica

Located in beautiful tropical Central America, this winter break (two-week, 4 credits minimum) program at The Universidad de Costa Rica explores the design and performance of clean energy and water systems in the tropics.


Lyngby, Denmark

Study at Denmark Technical University (DTU), open to mechanical engineering students and other majors by permission. It runs both fall and spring terms. 


Lyon, France

This program is open to students with a main focus on Mechanical and Electrical/Electronic & Automation Engineering. It takes place in Lyon, France, a beautiful city, which is only two hours from Paris by train at The École Catholique d'Arts et Métiers and The École d'Ingenieurs de Purpan during spring and summer semesters.



Aachen, Germany

A Mechanical Engineering research project worth 12 credits at The Rheinisch Westfalische Technische Hochschule during the summer semester.  Students have an outstanding opportunity to carry out five (5) credits of independent study in a German research lab, explore industrial activities and experience German culture and lifestyle.  All students will have at least taken GRM 101 (or the equivalent) prior to departure.  The MSU course German language (GRM 102 or higher) is also offered to provide the required nine (9) credits.  Your academic "home" will be the RWTH-Aachen, one of the top technical universities in all of Europe.

This program at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is open to Computer Science and Engineering students, along with other engineering majors (by permission) in the fall, spring and *summer. (*new addition)


Edinburgh, Scotland

Appropriate students for this program would be ME students who expect to have completed ME 332-Fluid Mechanics before attending this study abroad at The University of Edinburgh.


Madrid, Spain

This program is open in the fall and spring semesters to students drawn from Material Science and Chemical Engineering. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply.

Also offered in the summer to multiple engineering majors: MSE, CHE, ME, EE, and others by department permission.  The Technical University of Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, is the oldest and largest of Spanish technical universities.

 Arctic Circle


This program will be technical in nature and will address various forms of renewable energies and associated technologies, economics, safety and environmental impacts.

Course topics include Global Overview of Energy, Wind Energy, Biomass, Anaerobic Digestion and Systems Approach to Renewable Energy.


Taipei, Taiwan

The National Taiwan University in Taipei is hosting ECE and other engineering majors by permission.  Selected courses are taught in English.  Open to juniors and seniors during both fall and spring semesters.  Early applications are advised.


Dar es Salaam and Arusha, Tanzania

This program focuses on information and communication technology for development ICT4D.  It is open to students enrolled in bachelor's programs at Michigan State University who may apply for the specialization if they are sophomores, juniors or seniors in good academic standing.  Students with an interest in IT, solar power, computer systems, mobile applications, K-12 education in developing country context or business or socioeconomic development issues are encouraged to consider participating.  Students enroll in TC488: Information and Communication Technologies for Development Field of Study.  MSU is partnering with The University of Dar es Salaam and the ICT Global Corps.


Eskisehir, Turkey

Engineering students have the opportunity to study at Anadolu University (AU) in Eskisehir, Turkey through the direct enrollment program. Most engineering classes are taught in English during the summer.
