SPE Info

WHAT IS SPE?
The national chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers was chartered by the State of Michigan on January 6, 1942, at which time the Society consisted of 120 members in good standing.  SPE has become the recognized medium of communication among scientists and engineers engaged in the development, conversion and applications of plastics.  It is truly an international society since a significant number of its members reside outside the United States.

The Society is dedicated to helping you attain higher professional status through increased
scientific, engineering and technical knowledge.  SPE has over 37,000 members involved in
engineering, design, production and processing, research and development, consulting, marketing and sales, purchasing, education and all levels of management.

WHY JOIN SPE?
Membership provides an excellent chance to meet practicing engineers and make valuable
contacts.  The technical meetings, tours and literature provide information that will help in the
classroom.  The opportunity to list SPE on a resume will demonstrate professionalism to
potential employers.  Membership increases your chance to get local scholorships, loans, or
compete for internships and cash awards.  By becoming active with SPE, you will have an
opportunity to test your leadership ideas and abilities.  Your involvement with SPE will provide
an introduction to plastics, advanced technology, careers and industry.
