Impression 5 Science Center Outreach Competition

    Event Date: Sunday, February 17th
    Event Time: Noon – 4:30pm
Organization Registration Deadline: Tuesday February 12th

To kick off Engineers Week 2013, Michigan State student engineering organizations annually have the opportunity to host presentation tables at Impression 5 Museum in downtown Lansing. The goal of this outreach event is to inspire our community’s youth to pursue higher education in an engineering science/technology field. The theme of this year’s E-Week is global population awareness.

The presentations can range from being a “walk up and observe” table to a “fun and messy” hands-on demonstration and all tables are integrated right within the Science Center’s activities. The primary audience will be k-6th grade kids and their parents. The museum is open to the public from 12pm-5pm, and MSU is allowed to begin setup at 11:30am so the presentations are ready by noon. There is plenty of room available to student organizations and the chemistry lab has been reserved if needed. There should be at least 1 person at each table all day, but the more people an organization has, the more engaging the experience will be.

In order to make this event as beneficial as possible to everyone involved, the Student Engineering Council will assist with funding student organizations in the form of a competition. The children and parents will be able to vote for their favorite activity before they leave the museum. Prizes (amount to be determined) will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place organization in the form of direct deposit into their organization’s account.

Tables with covers, maps, and voting ballots will be provided.

Transportation to Impression 5 must be self-provided; the museum will allow free parking in their back parking lot for volunteers. Also accessible by the CATA bus system, take the #1 bus to the bridge 3 blocks away from the capital building. Impression 5 asks that volunteers are encouraged to look somewhat professional and to represent MSU by wearing MSU regalia (no hats, please).
