Overview

SAMPE was established in 1944 primarily as an aircraft materials and process society. During the 80's the society grew exponentially and is now international with chapters in Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim. Today SAMPE activities are well beyond aerospace, including sporting goods, ground based transportation, and infrastructure. Current topics are composites, adhesives, manufacturing methods, coatings, environmental effects, characterization and non-destructive evaluation.

At Michigan State University, one of major goals is to provide educational opportunities for future generations of students interested in materials processing and engineering. The Chapter at Michigan State University was founded in 1994 and is now the largest in Michigan.

Members of SAMPE are from different schools of engineering at the East Lansing campus and this makes SAMPE at Michigan State University a truly inter-disciplinary engineering society.

P lant trips have been arranged to manufacturing facities of local corporations such as Nero Plastics (Owosso, MI), Auto Air Composites (Lansing, MI), Allied Signal (Sterling Heights, MI) and 21st Century Plastics (Charlotte, MI). Michigan State University SAMPE also has been involved in arranging/participating in student poster competitions.

Education is our main goal. Michigan State University SAMPE has exciting plans to serve the wide range of interests of engineering students from different disciplines through design competitions, scholarships, and other challenging events that foster the academic growth at Michigan State University.
