Cornerstone Engineering

What is Cornerstone Engineering?

Cornerstone Engineering is a suite of two courses that introduce new students to engineering. Each year, about 900 students get their first taste of engineering principles in EGR100. This first course engages students in hands‐on, team‐based, design projects that cultivate creativity and innovation, and sharpen communication and presentation skills. The second course introduces students to problem solving and mathematical modeling of engineering problems and systems.

EGR 100- Introduction to Engineering Design

EGR100 Design student explaining prototype

This engineering course provides a set of broad team-based, hands-on design experiences for all first year engineering students. In this course students will also be introduced to topics common across all of the engineering disciplines.

Engineering Design Day

Teams of students are required to design and manufacture mechanisms and new products or processes to remove a frequent inconvenience in their daily lives. Their design concept will need to be something new or a significant improvement to an existing product or process. First year engineering students will work in teams.

EGR 102- Introduction to Engineering Modeling

This course will introduce students to a system of mathematical modeling of engineering problems and systems. This course is required for all majors except Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
