Summer Research Internships in the College of Engineering
The Program
The College of Engineering, in partnership with the Provost's Office and Engineering faculty, will again offer summer research opportunities for high achieving students. The intent of this program is to encourage undergraduate students to consider pursuing graduate degrees, and to provide them an early opportunity to become involved in research.
Financial Support
Students will receive $10.00 per hour up to a maximum of 40 hours per week and 400 hours total for the summer.
Summer Class Enrollment
The primary intent of the program is to encourage intensive research involvement; it is expected that students will not carry a significant summer class load. At the discretion of the faculty mentor, student may enroll for independent study credit for a component of the research work having a gradable academic product. Enrollment fees must be paid by the student.
Eligibility
We expect to select and fund 50 engineering students. Applicants must have a minimum of 3.20 grade point average for consideration and a graduate degree must be offered in the student's department. Women and minority applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.
Deadline
Students selected for the program will be notified as soon as possible but not later than March 23, 2007. Selections will be made in each department, considering students' potential and current research projects in the department. Notified students will be expected to make a firm commitment to whether they will participate within two weeks after notification. Alternate students may be contacted later if positions remain available.
