Call for Papers for
ICRA04 Special Session on Education in Robotics
and Automation
Experiments, tools, and ideas related to improving education and
training of students in R&A
Paper submission and presentation is reserved for
undergraduate and master students, describing their work in the area of Education and Experiments
in Robotics and Automation. The main author of each paper must be
an IEEE student member in good standing. Participation to the session is
encouraged for all researchers with interests in Robotics and Automation
Education.
The main author whose paper is accepted will receive partial travel
support (up to 1000 US$) to attend ICRA 2004 in New Orleans (USA)
in April 2004. (The actual amount of the travel support will depend
on the travel cost of the presenter)
Important Dates:
| Paper Submission in Electronic Format: |
January 15, 2004 |
| Acceptance notification: |
February 10, 2004 |
| Final Papers Submission Due : |
February 28, 2004 |
Papers should be submitted in PDF format and in
final form (IEEE conference format) to Prof. Paolo Fiorini (paolo.fiorini@univr.it)
by the due date.
The session aims specifically at attracting undergraduate
and master students to present their academic work during and for
the purpose of achieving their degree, and papers will not be required
to present innovative scientific work. The emphasis of the session
will be on presenting innovative "educational" activities
that promote and strengthen the penetration of robotic subjects
in engineering and computer science curricula.
Students shall present the results of their work
for the development of robotic experiments aimed at education in Robotics, or at the education
in other disciplines that use robots as a testbed for their concepts
and
algorithms, such as, for example, humanities, art, neural sciences,
psychology and so on. Papers shall discuss what has been done, and
what is currently done, to develop robotics laboratories,
their supporting equipment, and the related teaching material. Papers should also
focus on lesson learned during the development of such educational and experimental
material, so as to share some of the authors' experience in this
long and expensive task.
This special session aims also at giving visibility
to the efforts done in the area of robotics education and at promoting cooperation between various laboratories to avoid work duplication and unnecessary
efforts and expenses.
