Principal research interests: robust and adaptive control of nonlinear systems, singular perturbation methods in control. He is currently a University Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has published several papers on singular perturbation methods and nonlinear control. He is the author of Nonlinear Systems (New York: Macmillan, 1992; Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall, 1996 and 2002) and a coauthor of Singular Perturbation Methods in Control: Analysis and Design (New York: Academic, 1986; Philadelphia, PA: SIAM, 1999). Khalil is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as well as a fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC).
