Ode Chrototos Eggegramai
Omega Chi Epsilon gets its name from our motto, which means, "In this Society, professionalism is engraved in our minds."
In 1931, chemical engineering students at the University of Illinois drafted the ground work for Omega Chi Epsilon, a society of chemical engineers that is dedicated to recognizing the
achievements and leadership of juniors and seniors in the field. Other groups at different schools began petitioning the Alpha Chapter for charters, and the society began to grow. Today, Omega Chi Epsilon is proud to have over 20,000 members in 67 different chapters.
The Alpha Zeta chapter at Michigan State University was granted its charter in 1977, becoming the 30th chapter to be chartered. The chapter membership included 19 students with Dr. Jayaraman and Dr. Bruce Wilkinson serving as the advisers. The Alpha Zeta chapter membership since 1977 totals over 500 people, including 12 active members. Our activities include setting up and proctoring the Junior Competitive Exam, volunteering for the Science, Engineering & Technology (SET) Day, and next year we plan to renew participation in Symposium Day by co-hosting it with AIChE.
