Kathryn (Katy) Sirovatka
Kathryn (Katy) Sirovatka (BS ’96, PhD ’00, Chem Egr) age 37, of Appleton, Wisc., died March 16, 2012. She was born on October 5, 1974, in Naperville, Ill., to James and Marilyn (McGrane) Sirovatka. She married Jon Combs on April 12, 2008. She was employed at Kimberly-Clark Corporation as a scientist.
Sirovatka was a well-known triathlon athlete. She was an active member of the Fox Cities (Wisc.) Triathlon Club, representing the club at the 2008 Ironman Competition in Louisville, Kentucky, and the 2011 Wisconsin Ironman Competition. She was also a draft marshal for numerous other Ironman competitions and generously gave her time and expertise to mentor and organize the "Educate a Triathlete" program in Fox Valley, Wisc.
She also enjoyed sewing and quilting; she was a member of the Darting Needles Quilt Guild and Conversations in Cloth. One of her award-winning quilt designs was used by the Oshkosh Museum several years ago for its noted quilt show. She was also an avid scrapbooker, and a volunteer with the Special Olympics program.
Sirovatka is survived by her husband, Jon Combs; her parents; her step-sons, Aleksandr and Petr Combs; her brother, Matthew (Karen) Sirovatka, and their son, Michael.
