Harry C. Wills
Harry C. Wills (BS Civ Egr ‘37) died April 8, 2011, in Carlsbad, Calif. He was born in Detroit on August 2, 1915, to Anna P. and William H. Wills. After graduating from MSU with his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Wills went on to receive an MS in business management from Stanford University and attended the Naval War College.
Wills worked as a Civil Engineer Corps commander for the U.S. Navy for 25 years and retired from the Navy in August 1963. He then worked as the director of public works/ city manager for Monterey Park, Calif., for 14 years. Wills was a member of the Rotary and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, wood crafting, gardening, antique cars, and model trains.
Wills is survived by two daughters, Kathryn A. Hunt of Mattapoisett, Mass., and Mary L. DeMeo of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son, William W. Wills of Hemet, Calif.; four granddaughters, two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by Dorothy L. Wills, his first wife of 50 years (1942-1992), and Jane K. Wills, his second wife of 10 years (1993-2003). A memorial service was held at Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Community with burial in the Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, Calif.
