Gerald Max Flachs

Gerald Max Flachs (BS '62, MS '63, PhD '67 Elec Egr) died April 3, 2011, in the care of Mesilla Valley (N.Mex.) Hospice following a battle with glioblastoma.

Flachs served as professor of electrical and computer engineering at New Mexico State University from 1969 until 1996. He was awarded the Robert L. Westhafer award for excellence in research in 1996.

He was born in Remus, Mich., on May 26, 1940, to John and Augusta (Snider) Flachs. Flachs married Mary Churchill in 1965 and together they raised two children in Las Cruces, N.Mex.

Flachs was preceded in death by his brothers Eugene and Walter and his sisters Alice Lueder and Teresa Coville. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son Brian (Lisa); daughter Sharlene (Matthew); grandchildren Elise, Emily, Elaine, Luke, Amanda, and Brendan; and sister Darlene (Jack) Frumveller.
