Wilfred G. "Bill" Shedd

Wilfred G. "Bill" Shedd (BS Mech Egr '50), passed away March 29, 2010, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, at the age of 81. Born in Rockford, Ill., he had served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was the owner of Metallurgical Processing Inc., until retiring in 1999. He was a 45-year member of Plymouth Congregational Church, where he had been on the board of trustees and served as treasurer and as a member of the Reach, Renew, and Rejoice Campaign. He was also a member of the Fort Wayne Downtown Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow; Quest Club; the Michigan State University Alumni Association; Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Tau Beta Pi engineering honorary society; and the Winged Spartans, where he earned his pilot's license. He had also been a past president and treasurer of the Metal Treating Institute, receiving the Heritage Award in 1998. He also served on the board of the National Association of Manufacturers. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Carol J. (Smith) Shedd; son, Dr. Frederick (Dr. Philippa) Shedd of Columbus, Ind.; daughter, Leanne Byron of Littleton, Colo.; stepson, David (Krista) Fuhrman of Roachdale, Ind.; stepdaughter, Sandra (Michael) Shavlik of Fort Wayne, Ind.; stepson, Daniel (Shawna) Fuhrman of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, and Nicholas Shedd, Robert and Alex Byron; and step-grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Sarah, and Seth Fuhrman, Drew and Jacob Shavlik and Austin, Spencer, and Hunter Fuhrman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Alta Shedd; and brothers, Robert and John Shedd.
