Thomas Keith Clay

Thomas Keith Clay (BS Mech Egr ’49) of Shelbyville, Ind., died Aug. 8, 2014, at Ashford Place Campus in Shelbyville. He was 94.

He was born June 7, 1920, to Harold Clay and Mary Alda (Smith) Clay in Charlotte, Mich., and married Gladys (Wade) Clay on April 21, 1946.

He graduated from Hillsdale High School in Michigan in 1938. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a flight instructor and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1949.

He was employed as a mechanical engineer for Chrysler Corp. for 12 years and retired in 1979. He had also worked for Moto-Mower in Richmond and then at Great States in Shelbyville for several years.

Clay was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Jeff Clay and wife, Cindy, of Shelbyville; and Joe Clay and wife, Judy, of Shelbyville; daughters: Mary Armstrong of New Palestine; and Jennifer Kiesel and husband, Bill, of Trafalgar; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with burial at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
