Roger K. Strong

Roger K. Strong (BS Mech Egr ’49) of Farmington, Conn., died March 25, 2014. He was 89.

He spent most of his early life in Michigan and enlisted in the Navy seeking to become a fighter pilot after he graduated from high school in the 1940s. He and his two brothers all served in the U.S. military during World War II.

Strong returned to Michigan after pilot training and attended Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1949. 

He and his wife, Jeannette, were married in 1949 and lived in Doylestown, Pa., where Strong worked as a mechanical engineer. He spent 35 years working for Honeywell, where he made industrial tools.

He retired in 1987, allowing the couple to buy a camper and travel around the country. They visited every state, including Alaska and Hawaii.

A private memorial ceremony is planned in 2014, followed by internment in Fairlawn Cemetery in Dalton, Pa. Arrangements were handled by the Ahern Funeral Home of Unionville, Conn., www.ahernfuneralhome.com.
