Robert Robinson

Robert (Robbie) Robinson (BS CHEM EGR ’48) of Berea, Ohio, died Feb. 3, 2017. He was 93.

He was born Sept. 10, 1923.

Robinson graduated in 1948 from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation as an engineer and retired in 1980.

Robinson received Berea's 1997 citizen of the year Grindstone Award and was known for his humanity and the many programs on World War II and the Great Depression he presented to community groups and students. He frequently volunteered with the staff at Berea High School and was its senior volunteer coordinator. He received the Berea School District Distinguished Alumni award in 2016.

Robinson served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was recognized for that service through a feature by Plain Dealer writer Brian Albrecht in 2012. Robinson was only 19 years old when he departed his Michigan home to serve in Europe in 1943 as a member of the 8th Armored Division.

A memorial service was conducted for him on Feb. 19 at the United Methodist Church of Berea.
