Robert L. Vanderscors

Robert L. Vanderscors (BS CHEM EGR ’49) of Marysville, died Aug. 20, 2016. He was 91.

He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Grand Rapids to the late Louis L. and Isabel Oliver Vanderscors.

He graduated from Grandville High School in June 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Hill, Destroyer Escort 141. 

He married Doris P. Cohick on Dec. 24, 1945, in Salladasburg, Penn. She preceded him in death after 62 years of marriage on May 7, 2007. 

After his military service, he returned to Michigan State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1949. He also received a Second Lieutenant commission in the Army Ordnance Reserve. 

Vanderscors held various management positions with Diamond Crystal Salt Company until his retirement in 1987 after 21 years of employment.

He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Kilbourne and Jean Ann Burleigh; son-in-law, Jeremy Nelson; grandchildren, Marnie, Lacey, Shane, Heidi, and Dulce; brother-in-law, James L. "Buddy" Cohick; and good friends Sally Bohs, and Grant and Dollie Partridge.

Services were Aug. 24 in Marysville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
