Robert Hillard Cook

Robert "Bob" Hillard Cook (BS Civ Egr ’51) passed away peacefully on March 11, 2014, at Hospice House in Cheboygan, Mich., at the age of 84.

He was born in Grand Rapids on Nov. 19, 1929, to Albertus and Florence Cook and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1947.

He graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1951. 

Upon graduating from MSU, he married Evonne Thomas and served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco. The family then moved to South Bend, Ind., where he worked for Bendix Aviation Corp.

After leaving Bendix, he met and married Jacqueline Stauffer and they moved to Indianapolis, Kalamazoo and then the Detroit-area, where he was employed by Ford Motor Company. After the passing of Jacqueline, he met and married Nancy Bartling. Soon after retiring from Ford, the couple moved to Harbor Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children; four stepchildren; 15 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was April 12 at First Presbyterian Church, Harbor Springs. Memorials can be made to Vital Care Hospice House of Cheboygan.
