Joseph Michael Folk (BS Elec Egr ’78) died unexpectedly of natural causes on Nov. 25, 2013, in Culver City, Calif.
Folk, 60, was born to Anna and the late Joseph Folk on December 13, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio.
He graduated as salutatorian from Erie Mason High School in 1973 and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University in 1978.
He began his career in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and subsequently with Hughes Space & Communications in June of 1980. He remained with the Passive Microwave Group through several transitions, including Boeing Space & Communications, L-3 Communications Electron Technologies and finally COM DEV USA, LLC.
He contributed much over his 30-plus years of service supporting key satellite programs critical to communications and national defense. He was well respected for his contributions to the success of these organizations.
Folk is survived by his mother Anna Folk; sisters Maria (Bill) Bowerman and Frances Folk; nieces Courtney Bowerman and Ashley Folk; and nephew Stuart Bowerman.
Private family services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice in Folk’s memory. Arrangements are being made by Merkle Funeral Home in Monroe, Mich.
