John E. Robbins

John E. Robbins  (BS CIV EGR ’59), Manton, died Nov. 30, 2017, at Ohana Adult Foster Care Home following a long illness. He was 87.

He was born Sept. 30, in Clintonville, Wisconsin, to George D. and Elta E. (Zingler) Robbins. 

He graduated in 1949 graduate of Manton High School. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Germany during the Korean War. 

He graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1959, later earning graduate degrees from Yale and Wayne State. 

He retired from the City of Ann Arbor after 25 years as its director of traffic engineering and transportation. Upon his retirement he continued to work in traffic engineering with the City of Orlando and the City of Troy. 

He later moved to Manton and completed 50 years of public service on its city commission. He co-founded the Manton Veterans Museum, where he served as its co-curator. 

Services were Dec. 8 at the Hall-Holdship Funeral Home.
