James Dykstra (BS Civ Egr '49), 86, of Port Huron, Mich., died April 10, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born February 4, 1926, to the late Neil and Wilhelmina Dykstra in St. Clair Shores, Mich. He grew up in Byron Center, Mich., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946.
Dykstra worked as a civil engineer with MDOT, other private engineering firms, and as the county engineer in Arenac County until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Port Huron Schubert Men's Chorus and the Marysville Coin Club for many years.
He is survived by his children, Paula of Ypsilanti, Mich.; Tom (Cara) of Arnot, Penna.; William of Port Huron, Mich.; Robert (Dianna) of Marysville, Mich.; and Daniel (Keri) of Dewitt, Mich.; grandchildren, Kaylie, and Emily Graham and Melissa Dykstra, all of Marysville, Mich.; sisters, Ann (Rex) Clawson, Jeannette Voss, and Nell Dempsey; and brother, John (Marilyn) Dykstra. His wife, Margaret, and his brother Louis preceded him in death.
