Homer Boughner

Homer Boughner (BS Mech Egr '51) of Cadillac, died peacefully on Dec. 6, 2014, at The Curry House in Cadillac. He was 97.

He was born on May 14, 1917, in Muskegon, and grew up in Grand Rapids and the Northern Michigan area.

He answered the call of duty from 1942 to 1946, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Boughner graduated from Michigan State University in 1951, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.

He moved to Cadillac in 1958 for a position with Kysor (now BorgWarner). He retired after 25 years, returning several times for special projects.

He was an 82-year registered scouter as a Cub Scout, Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster, Trainer and Silver Beaver recipient. He served his church as an elder, choir member and committee member. In the community, he volunteered with the Salvation Army and Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Esther (Thompson); his children: Tom (Toni) Boughner of Cadillac, Steven Boughner of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joel (Cheryl) Boughner of Allen Park, and Jane (Mark) Wightman of Cadillac; eight grandchildren: Mark Boughner of Cadillac, Matthew Boughner of Caledonia, Bradley (Marcy) Boughner of El Paso, Texas, Bethany (Ben) Dontje of Williamston, Scott Boughner of Nashville, Tenn., Aaron Boughner of Allen Park, Sarah (Shelby Fowler) Wightman of Ypsilanti, and Paul Wightman of South Range; three great-grandchildren: Ana Boughner, Diego Boughner of El Paso, Texas, and Eleanor Dontje of Williamston; sister-in-law, Jackie Boughner of Grand Rapids; and brother-in-law, Eldon Caldwell of Rehoboth, Mass.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
