Edward H. Fauth

Edward H. Fauth, EdD, PE, (BS Mech Egr ’50) of Aurora, Ill., died October 3, 2009, at Rush Copley Hospital after a two-week illness. He was 86.

He was born in Aurora on October 22, 1922, the son of Edward H. and Martha J. (Westphal) Fauth. After graduating from East High School of Aurora, he began working for Barber-Greene Company. He served with the 477th Railroad Battalion of the U.S. Army in World War II, which was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Barber-Greene after the war and stayed with the company for 31 years. During this time he completed his education in mechanical engineering with degrees from MSU and the Illinois Institute of Technology (MS). He then became dean of Community Services with Waubonsee Community College, where he worked until retirement in 1987. During his tenure there he completed an advanced degree (EdD) in higher education from Nova University.

In addition to his employment, Ed was very active in multiple community organizations including the East Aurora District 131 School Board, Aurora YMCA, Aurora Economic Development Commission, Aurora Urban League, Aurora Home Rule and Revenue Sharing Committee, Aurora Labor-Management Committee, Kane Kendall County Mental Health Center, Kane County Community Action Agency, United Way, and Rotary International Club of Aurora. He was the first District Governor of Rotary from the Aurora Noon Rotary Club. He also was active in the local and national societies of Professional Engineers.

He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Ralph (Doris) and Robert (Naomi) and a sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances, nee Miller; brothers Carl (Dorothy) and William (JoAnn); a sister, Marion (Roland) Bolly; his children, Dr. Gregory (Geralyn) Fauth of Aurora, Ill., Mary (Gregory) Kushner of Brighton, Mich., Dr. Linda (Jeffrey) Sanborn of Gorham, Maine, and Anne (Peter) Sparling of West Bloomfield, Mich. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: Wade, Riley and McKenzie Fauth; Nicole (Paul) Plzak; Jill and Laura Doran; Katie (Tony) Hernandez; Adam (Yoko) and Charles Kushner; Casey, Blake, and Peter Sanborn; and Jaime, Megan, and Sam Sparling; and Jose Daniel Nasta, a Paraguayan exchange student member of the family and his children Rodrigo, Martin, and Maria.
