Message from Joe Gentile, Chair of the College of Engineering Alumni Association Board

Photo of Joe GentileGreetings from the College of Engineering Alumni Association Board. As you will see in this issue of e-Currents, much has happened within the college during the past few months. From an alumni perspective, perhaps the most significant event occurred in early May when the College of Engineering granted 288 baccalaureate, 28 master's, and 18 doctoral degrees. I know all of you will join with the alumni board in congratulating each of these graduates and welcoming them to the worldwide community of Spartan Engineers!

Many of you will remember your senior capstone project and, of course, Design Day at the MSU Union, when you and your colleagues had the opportunity to display your results publicly. As many of you already know, Design Day gets better every year and spring 2012 was no exception. I invite you to visit the Design Day web page at http://designday.egr.msu.edu/. Download the spring 2012 Design Day booklet (http://designday.egr.msu.edu/files_design-program/DD_Spring12_final-online.pdf) and read about the impressive accomplishments of this year's seniors. Doing so will renew your pride in your university and college.

In the last e-Currents, we invited you to participate in an online survey to tell us your preferences regarding receiving news and communications from the College of Engineering. We then mailed communications survey postcards to 27,900 alumni via the U.S. Postal Service, asking for preferred correspondence methods. Of the 1,378 responses, 39 percent of you ranked e-mail as the number one preferred method for receiving correspondence from the college, while 24 percent of you ranked print as the number one preferred method. While it would be easy to focus on e-mail based on these responses, we realize the importance of all media types and intend to continue to use a combination of methods for communicating with you at this point in time. We thank you all for your input as we continue to develop the college's communication strategy.

We always enjoy hearing from our alumni, so please keep in touch. Comments, questions, complaints, or suggestions, all are welcome.
