Research activities

In the Computational Structural Mechanics Laboratory, students and faculty from various departments throughout the college work together towards the development of new mechancs theories and computational algorithms, the assessment of existing numerical techniques, and the novel application of traditional computational methods for modeling and simulation of structural reponse. Current projects involve: laminated composite structural theory development and finite element modeling; simulation of microstructural evolution during forming of textile preforms; energy absorption of composite tubes; automated design of automotive structures for crashworthiness and vibration characteristics using genetic algorithms; and development of finite element interface technologies.
