Tamara Reid Bush Selected for Young Investigators Initiative Program

Tamara Reid Bush, assistant professor of mechanical engineering and director of MSU’s Biomechanical Design Research Laboratory, has been selected to participate in the United States Bone and Joint Decade’s (USBJD) Young Investigators Initiative program.

Orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, physical therapists, and medical and patient health associations worldwide are joining together for Bone and Joint Decade to advance understanding and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders through prevention, education, and research. The USBJD Research Committee offers a grant mentoring program consisting of workshops to provide early-career investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers
in the field to assist them in securing funding and attaining the survival skills required for pursuing an academic career. The next workshop will be held in the fall.

In addition to a USBJD mentor, participants work with mentors from their home institutions. Bush’s MSU mentors are Steven Shaw, professor of mechanical engineering; and Lisa DeStefano, D.O., chairperson, Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
