Formula & Baja teams represent ME at Career Day

The MSU Formula Racing Team and the Baja Racing Team took part in Woodcreek Elementary's Career Day in Lansing on April 16. The day was split up into a morning session for kindergarten, first, and second graders; and an afternoon session for third, fourth, and fifth graders. Since the school had so many presenters at the event, the children chose four careers that interested them the most and were able to attend each of the four, 25-minute presentations. Careers included meteorology, zoo keeping, entomology, geology, and more.

The Formula and Baja teams collectively represented mechanical engineering. They explained different things the ME majors on the teams work on which include Powertrain, suspension, braking, body, etc. The Formula Team showed various clips of Car 9 driving through an autocross course and then gave the children an opportunity to ask questions and even sit in the car. Both Baja and Formula were asked to present at the Career Day by Drew Kim, Education Director of Recruitment and K-12 Outreach, who was contacted directly by Woodcreek Elementary.

Rachel Hall, a member of the Operations Division of the MSU Formula Racing Team, explained how "the day went great...even if some of them might have been a little too young to really understand all of the ways mechanical engineering was represented in the car, they really enjoyed seeing the car and especially sitting in it." She went on to say that overall, the kids seemed to have a lot of fun and so did they.
