Faculty Outreach
The faculty and staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering are actively involved in furthering the education of its students but also providing a link to the community outside the department on campus and off campus.
As an example, Dr. Craig Somerton and graduate students Basak Oguz and Andrew Siefert have provided middle school students with an encounter with enigneering during the MST@MSU: Mathematics,Science, and Technology at Michigan State University (Mechanical Engineering) program.
Dr. Tamara Reid Bush mentors girl scouts and has been a Consultant for the State Of MI, District Attorney's Office, Health Care Fraud Division and a Consultant for Steelcase
Dr. Brian Feeny did an overview of engineering Kinawa Middle School's career day in March. He included, as an example, the application of vibration absorbers to automotive engines for improving fuel economy, and also to light aircraft to prevent failures of propeller shafts.
Drs.Steve Shaw and Alan Haddow have conducted mechanical engineering seminars for the Hign School Engineering Institute at Michigan State University for the past two summers.
