Meet the Facilitators!
Abigail Henning - Internal President
Hi! My name is Abigail Henning, and I am Internal President for Leadership Advantage. I am currently a senior studying mechanical engineering. I am from Novi, Michigan and attended Northville High School. Some random information about me: I played for the Northville tennis team, I was a proud marching band member, I am in the engineering sorority Phi Sigma Rho, and I am absolutely obsessed with Selena Gomez. I was a participant of Leadership Advantage in 2013 and a facilitator the past two years. I not only had an amazing time both years but met some of my closest friends during this program. I think Leadership Advantage is extremely beneficial for incoming engineering students as it helps freshmen get acclimated to campus, the Engineering building and the many resources available to engineering majors. I am excited for our 2016 Leadership Advantage program and cannot wait to see you all in August!
Alec Wilhoite - External President
Hello, my name is Alec Wilhoite and I'm currently the External President of Leadership Advantage. I'm a Senior studying Applied Engineering Sciences with a Minor in Computer Science. This will be my 3rd year being involved with the program: first a participant, then as facilitator and Treasurer, and now as External President. Coming into MSU, being involved in Leadership Advantage really broke me out of my shell and gave me lots of opportunities. I've gotten career advice, resume help, I've joined multiple student organizations, gained leadership experience, and have met lots of great people I'm glad to call my friends. On a professional level I've also been able to network, which has allowed me to get internships at GE Aviation and Apple over the past 3 summers. I'm really looking forward to helping shape and lead this program as we continue to grow. Looking forward to seeing you there! Go Green!
Alex Fischer - Secretary
Hi! My name is Alex Fischer and I am a Junior studying Civil Engineering as well as Environmental Biology/Plant Biology. This past summer I spent my time taking classes at the Kellogg Biological Station in Kalamazoo. Outside of class, I am the President of Michigan State's engineering sorority, Phi Sigma Rho. In my free time, I enjoy being outside, playing with my dog, and horseback riding when I get the chance. I look forward to meeting you and helping you make the transition to Michigan State!
Duncan MacLeod - Recruitment Chair
My name is Duncan MacLeod and this is my second year as a facilitator for the Leadership Advantage program after I took part in the program my freshman year. I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering hailing from the Isle of Man in the UK with a passion for motorsports and designing future World Rally cars and am an avid rugby player, car mechanic, musician, weightlifter and also a prospective Marine Infantry Reservist, so if there is anything you want to know about MSU extra-curricular activities then I'm your guy! Leadership Advantage is a fantastic way to get to know new people and get to know MSU and its engineering program and I can guarantee that you will make some of your fondest memories during your Leadership Advantage experience. As the recruitment chair for Leadership Advantage I shall be the advocate for telling you all about the program and how valuable this opportunity is for all incoming engineers, so expect plenty of emails from me! Can't wait to meet each and every one of you this coming year, so go green, go white and if you're interested in Greek life, go Beta Theta Pi!
Filip Milojevic - Treasurer
My name is Filip Milojevic and I am the Treasurer for the 2016 Leadership Advantage program. I am a Junior studying Chemical Engineering. When I'm not at school, I live in Bloomfield Hills. MI, but I'm originally from Canada and my family is straight out of Serbia. Some of my hobbies include traveling, world news, snowboarding and playing video games. I was a participant in Leadership Advantage and this will be my second year as a facilitator. I am also involved in Triangle Fraternity for Engineers, Architects and Scientists. I'm so excited to meet you all and I promise this program will be both educational and entertaining!
Jason Sammut - Webmaster
My name is Jason Sammut and I am currently the Webmaster for Leadership Advantage. I am a junior who participated in the program as a freshman, and was a facilitator last year. Leadership Advantage was a great chance for me to transition into Spartan Engineering, and is an overall excellent experience for all those involved. My hometown is Romeo, Michigan, and I am studying Mechanical Engineering with plans to pursue graduate studies in Aerospace Engineering. During the school year I assist in research at the NSCL (Cyclotron) and T.A. for my professor's physics classes. I could talk about and play sports all day, every day, and enjoy using CAD software for small projects. Thanks to my brother, an athletic trainer alumnus from MSU, I have been bleeding green well before I stepped foot on campus, and you will find me at every Spartan Football and Basketball game. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have, and see you soon!
Hey! My name is Kayla Akey and I am a Junior studying Computer Engineering. This is my first Leadership Advantage and I am super excited to meet all of you and spend this week with the other amazing facilitators before classes start back up. I am a part of MSU's engineering sorority, Phi Sigma Rho, Society of Women Engineers, and Women in Computing. This past summer I had an internship/took classes at MSU. In my free time I love to go for walks, watch movies, take pictures, and color. I'm super pumped to get to know all of you and help you transition to Michigan State!
Hi, my name is Bridget Bator and I am a junior studying chemical engineering! This is my second year as a Leadership Advantage facilitator (I was a participant in the fall of 2014!). Through Leadership Advantage, I was able to meet some of my very best friends here at MSU and make so many memories before I even took a class! I'm originally from Saginaw, Michigan. This summer, I was an intern at General Motors with Powertrain Engineering in Pontiac, Michigan. At MSU, I am an active sister of Phi Sigma Rho engineering sorority, a member of the Women In Engineering (WIE) Leadership Team, and a mentor in the WIE program. During my free time, I enjoy napping (although resisting the urge to completely hibernate), watching movies for hours, and jamming out to 90s' tunes! I cannot wait to meet you all this fall and help you make your first memories at MSU!
Hey, I'm Mike! This will be my fourth year involved in Leadership Advantage. I was a participant in the summer of 2013 and I've been a facilitator in each summer since. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Spanish. I hope to either continue my studies in graduate school after my undergraduate degree or to enter industry working in the energy sector with a focus on renewable energy technologies. For me, Leadership Advantage was an excellent way for me to build a preliminary social network of likeminded freshmen. Many of the participants in Leadership Advantage will have multiple classes together their first year due to similar prerequisites among majors in the College of Engineering. Personally, I still keep in close contact with many of the participants from my group of Leadership Advantage. Leadership Advantage also provides a solid introduction to professional development in a university setting with a resume workshop that details best practices for getting noticed by employers as well as giving an overview of the academic and professional resources available to engineering freshmen. Furthermore, Leadership Advantage completely removes the stress of moving into the dorms, as the program takes place before anyone else moves. I look forward to meeting all of the new participants. The program gets better with each passing year.
Hey, how's it going? My name is Kenzo Bird and I have been a caterer and a facilitator over the last two years. This is my 4th year affiliated with Leadership Advantage. I am a senior studying packaging with a minor in Japanese. In my spare time, I love playing hockey, snowboarding, experimenting with food, and have gotten into video game design/programming. I currently work for MSU as a student architect. Because of Leadership Advantage, I have met some of my best friends and made a few of my best memories. I owe this program for setting me up and getting me adjusted to college life as a freshman. Can't wait to meet you all!
Hello all, my name is Ben Buscarino, and I'm from Saginaw Township, Michigan. I'm a sophomore studying Computer Science. I was a Leadership Advantage participant in the summer of 2015, and this will be my first year as a facilitator.
