Meet the Facilitators!
Hi, My name is Ben Thoune. I am currently a Senior studying Civil Engineering at Michigan State. I am a proud born and raised yooper from Menominee, Michigan where I took part in activities from football to golf, and student council to forensics. I am currently the External President for the program. Some of my favorite things to do in my free time include attending football games in the Fall, being a member of the IZZONE during the Winter, and also being a proud member of Triangle Fraternity. Leadership Advantage was a life changing experience for myself when I was a participant, and hope to be able to provide others with the same or better experience.
Hi! My name is Laura Anderson and I am the Internal President of Leadership Advantage. I am from Barrington, Illinois and in my senior year as a Civil Engineering student. I am also the President of Phi Sigma Rho Sorority, involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Mentor/Mentee program for Women in Engineering. In my free time I enjoy staying active by playing basketball, going to Zumba Fitness, and running where I then congratulate myself by eating food. I was a participant my freshmen year, so I have been involved in Leadership Advantage since the beginning of my college career. I met some of my absolute best friends through this program, so I highly encourage you to join and guarantee great experiences!
My name is Caleb Whetstone. I have lived in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, California, and my family
currently resides in Rochester, Michigan. I am a junior studying Chemical Engineering and potentially
minoring in Material Science and Engineering. I am the Treasurer for the 2014 session of Leadership
Advantage and have been a participant since I first came to MSU in the summer of 2012. Leadership
Advantage is a truly wonderful experience for incoming students. It allows you to become accustomed
to the topography of MSU and make new acquaintances with peers who have the same or a similar
major as yourself. I am involved with quite a few organizations on campus. I am Administrative Vice
President of Triangle Fraternity, Treasurer for Leadership Advantage, member of the American Institute
for Chemical Engineers, and a member of Spartan Standards. I am also an employee on campus. I work
as an Undergraduate Engineer at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams in the Cavity Etching and Cold Mass
Assembly Group, and I am an Undergraduate Research Assistant with one of the Organic Chemistry
Professors on Campus. I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
Hi, my name is Andrea Vedrody and I am the secretary for Leadership Advantage 2014. I am a Junior Mechanical Engineering Major. I'm from Clarkston, MI and was on the robotics team there. My younger sister is one of my best friends and she is becoming a SPARTAN this year like you! I like to hang out with my friends and stay active and have fun. I was a participant of Leadership Advantage in 2012, and I had a great time! I look forward to getting to know you all in August! See you soon.
Hey, I'm Jack Hiltz and I am a senior in Packaging Engineering. I am from Livonia, Michigan and went to Livonia Stevenson High School. In high school I was the captain of the varsity swim team, the treasurer of the student Senate, and I was involved in peer mentoring, tutoring, and National Honor Society. I have been involved in the Leadership Advantage program as a participant, a two year facilitator and am now serving as the recruitment coordinator. I am currently serving as the Vice President of Programming on the Michigan State University Interfraternity Council.
My name is AJ Kaiserauer and this is my second year being a facilitator for the Leadership Advantage program. I'm now also the webmaster for the program. I think Leadership Advantage is great for freshman engineers to get a feel for their major and meet new people in the process. I'm currently a Media Arts and Technology major minoring in Computer Science.I'm from Oak Lawn, Illinois (a suburb near Chicago) and in my spare time I enjoy DJaying and making animations.
My name is Eric Lausch and I am the Head Caterer for Leadership Advantage. I am a senior dual majoring in Packaging Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and I am from Novi, Michigan. This is my fourth year being involved in Leadership Advantage, starting when I was a participant as an incoming freshman. During the school year I am an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the packaging department studying fresh produce. I am also involved in the Club Golf team at Michigan State as well as having an active role in Habitat for Humanity and COPPAC, a packaging organization on campus.
Hello, I'm Mike Bigelow! I'm a Mechanical Engineering major from White Lake, MI. I'm a brother of Triangle Fraternity and was a participant in Leadership Advantage last year. I ultimately want to work in the energy industry with renewable energy. I enjoy listening to metal music and playing strategy video games. This year is going to be a good one - see you soon!
Hi, my name is Kenzo Bird. I'm a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University. I am a brother in Triangle Fraternity and I'm currently one of the safety police in my fraternity. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, driving, playing ice hockey, and video games.
Hey, my name is Lauren Chard and I am a sophomore in Packaging Engineering from White Lake, Michigan. Last year I was a participant in Leadership Advantage and gained so many friends and experiences, including becoming a member of the MSU's engineering sorority Phi Sigma Rho. I love to play tennis, swim, find random stuff to do, and hang out with friends. I can't wait to see you in August!

I participated in Leadership Advantage my Freshman year and was a facilitator last year and I am so excited to be a returning facilitator this year! Hi, I am Sarah Egbert and I am from Rochester Hills, Michigan. I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering. Some of my favorite things to do are going to football games, going on runs around our beautiful campus, and playing soccer. Last year I was involved in Leadership Advantage and I thought it was such a great experience, learning the campus, and making friends in the same major as you. Hi, my name is Brooke Gundersen, and I am from Plainfield, IL. I am a sophomore majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Spanish. I was a participant last year in Leadership Advantage, and I found that it was a great way to meet people in my classes. I am on the Women's Club Ultimate Frisbee Team, a member of the Society of Women Engineers, and I enjoy playing on IM teams. I am excited to start another year as a Spartan. Go Green!
Hi, my name is Abby Henning, and I am a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in in Biomedical Engineering. I am from Novi, Michigan and went to Northville High School. Some random information about me: I am a member of the engineering sorority, Phi Sigma Rho, I work at a movie theater, I am obsessed with Justin Bieber, and I love Michigan State. Hi! My name is Mariena Jones; I am a sophomore Honors College student majoring in Psychology from Lapeer, Michigan. I participated in Leadership Advantage last fall as a freshman and look forward to making this year even better as a facilitator! I work as a barista on campus at Starbucks in the Business College, and volunteer for the Day at State program as a mentor to high school seniors visiting campus. I love live music and enjoy attending music festivals as well as painting and yoga in my free time! In the future I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career as a Psychiatrist. Hey, my name is Grant Kunzi, I will be one of the facilitators at L.A. this year. I'm a sophomore pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and two minors in Material Science and Defense Studies and Leadership. Leadership Advantage provided me some of my first experiences here at MSU and I loved each one of them. Some groups I'm involved in are AFROTC, Club Water Polo, and Triangle Fraternity. My plans after school involve serving in the United States Air Force entering as a 2nd Lieutenant where I will likely work as a developmental engineer or potentially a Special Tactics Officer. I also enjoy reading, video gaming, listening to music, and socializing, you want to see me get really excited about something though, mention water polo. Seriously it's the best activity on this planet. I'm really excited to meet you all and help to provide some of the same amazing experiences I had last year as a participant. Sparty on!

My name is Jake Patin. I am a Senior at Michigan State University studying Environmental Engineering. I am the Risk Management Chair for Triangle Fraternity and the Engineering Liaison for the Michigan State Chapter of the United States Green Building Council. I am also a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Respect Life Group, and Men's Group. In my free time I like to go tubing, biking, fishing and being outdoors. This is my first year as a facilitator for Leadership Advantage. Leadership Advantage is a fantastic way to improve your skills and make lasting friendships. Hi, I'm a senior in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in fermented beverages. I'm from Lockport, New York but I'm a Spartan through and through. This is my fourth year in Leadership Advantage starting when I was a participant in 2011, and ending in 2014 as a facilitator for the program. I am also the Vice President of Administration for the Interfraternal Council at MSU. In my free time you'll find me either in the weight-room at IM West or at one of the many restaurants around campus. I met many of my closest friends through Leadership Advantage and it is definitely a great way to get acclimated to campus life.
Hello my name is Alec Wilhoite. I went to Powers Catholic High School and played soccer, skied, and golfed. I am currently a sophomore studying Applied Engineering Sciences with a concentration in Computer Science. I was a participant last year and made some great friends; some are on my intramural soccer team and some are now my Brothers at Triangle Fraternity. I am a member of SAES, a Brother of Triangle Fraternity, and I am on a soccer, dodge ball, and an inner tube water polo team. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, playing video games, and hanging out with friends.
