Tutoring at a Local Church
The MSU Student Chapter of ISPE has partnered with a local church (Mount Hope United Methodist Church) to establish a tutoring program for elementary-school students. The tutoring sessions are held at the church, which is located three miles west of MSU, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. As shown in the pictures below, elementary school students get personalized assistance from college students having special training in math and science.
While the purpose of the program is to help children learn, the tutors report that they may get more out of the program than the kids. Working with the children has proven to be fun, and meeting an important need in the local community is very satisfying.
For more information about the tutoring program, contact either ISPE Student Chapter advisor Mark Worden or the church. A map to the church is given on the church website.
