Women in Engineering (WIE)

Who? Students going into 10th, 11th or 12th grade
When? July 19-23, 2009

Program Description

Designed to encourage high school women to consider engineering as a career option. Students will be exposed to the majors in Biosystem Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering Sciences, and Computer Science. Special sessions are also presented on women in engineering issues, diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a closing ceremony involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

Who is eligible?

- GPA 3.0 or higher grade point average or individual ranking in the top 15% of cohort class

- Math or science teacher recommendation letter

- 500 word essay on "Why I want to be an engineer..."

- Signed application

- A transcript
