What?
A day for middle and high school students to participate in MSU College of Engineering's Design Day. Students can participate in design/build activities, interact with engineering faculty and students and learn about senior and junior level engineering projects. This is an opportunity to immerse students in the many facets of engineering and ignite a passion to pursue an education in science, math, engineering and technology. Students will gain an introductory understanding of electronics theory and application while building an electronic digital thermometer. Get an introduction to robotics in the NXT Robotics design lab as well as gain civil engineering skills in the tower build project.

Grandparents University

What? The MSU Grandparents University is a program for grandparents and grandchildren (ages 8-12) to come together for a 3-day educational experience while spending time together on the MSU campus. Participants enjoy the college experience of living in the dorms, attending classes across campus and sampling the many highlights of MSU.

What is Future Engineers Preview Day?
MSU’s
College of Engineering Future Engineers Preview Day is an opportunity for high school juniors, and seniors and transfer prospective students in and around the state of Michigan to experience the latest that MSU has to offer in engineering.

What types of events will be at Future Engineers Preview Day?
A variety of interesting and exciting events can be found at the Preview Day. Meet with professors, tour laboratories and see scientific demonstrations, learn about majors and careers, talk with current MSU students, and much more. Also the Dean and Associate Dean of Engineering, Admissions Office, Study Abroad, Financial Aid Office, Advising Office, Guided Learning Center, the Engineering Library, Division of Engineering Computing Services, Women In Engineering, and the Diversity Programs Office will be available throughout the day.

Do I have to register?
Registration is required and easy to do! You will receive an immediate confirmation of your reservation via email.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 16th.

A detailed program book, color-coded map, Choices brochure, and the new Spartan Engineering DVD will be distributed at the registration table in the Engineering lobby.

Is there a fee to attend?
There is no charge, but you may have to pay for parking.

Can school groups attend?
Groups of high school juniors and seniors are welcome to attend. Future Engineers Preview Day activities are geared to this level of students, so attendance by younger student groups is not recommended. Women in Engineering (WIE)

Who? Students going into 10th, 11th or 12th grade
When? July 19-23, 2009
What? Designed to encourage high school women to consider engineering as a career option. Students will be exposed to the majors in Biosystem Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering Sciences, and Computer Science. Special sessions are also presented on women in engineering issues, diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a closing ceremony involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

What?

HSEI has run for over 40 years. Students spend a week exploring engineering through lecture, lab and design sessions run by faculty and student assistants from our various programs. Special sessions are also presented on diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan.

- Create pre-college research opportunities.

- Provide a climate that ensures young people are supported to reach their fullest potential.

LEGO Robotics to Wireless Integrated MicroSystems for beginners

Designed for students to explore various engineering fields, focus on problem identification, team-building, communication, problem-solving, programming and competition using the NXT Robotics Invention System.


Additional Information:

LEGO Robotics to WIMS Program is a one-week commuter program that meets from 8am - Noon, Monday - Friday. It is designed to focus on engineering design process, team-building, communication, problem-solving, programming, presentation, and competition.

Program Fee: $225 per participant per session

This is a commuter program.
