Fall 2009 Environmental Engineering Seminar Series: Water Treatment Technologies
Role of Independent Third Party Testing Organizations in Application of Water Treatment Technologies in Society
Abstract:
New, emerging and developing technologies typically begin with the basic research typically performed at Universities. Ultimately these technologies are applied to meet the needs of society. Sometimes the technology fails to deliver as promised and sometimes with a few corrections, it can become a mainstay in an area like water treatment.
The role of independent third parties is critical as a check and balance on developing, emerging and applied technologies to assure they perform as expected in real world conditions and are safe and protective of public health. The NSF International (NSF) is a not for profit organization dedicated to public and health and safety. NSF develops standards of performance and tests products sold in the health and safety market place. NSF also certifies whether those products meet public health standards. NSF often forms partners in this endeavor such as with the US EPA or the World Health Organization.
The seminar will discuss the various NSF Standards, Certifications and Partnerships related to water. Topics include water distribution systems, drinking water treatment, recreational water treatment (pools etc.), waste water, storm water and water reuse.
All Students, Faculty, and Staff are welcome
