The
objective of this project is to determine the cyclic variability of a fuel
injector by measuring the mass flow of the fuel in a quartz tube located in front
of the injector. Using an LDA system
and seeding the flow, it is possible to generate a centerline velocity profile for the fuel flow. It is
then possible to determine the mass flow during the injection period using some
basic fluid mechanics equations. The
mass flows for individual cycles can then be compared in order to determine the
variability.
