The primary focus at the ARES
is the development and use of tools which provide
information on internal flows in engine assemblies. The internal flow diagnostic
activity is primarily laser based and utilizes four approaches:
Typically,
a prototype test stand (or test rig) is built by the ARES and adapted for each
experiment. With the aid of the test stand, one to all of the four laser
diagnostic techniques listed above are implemented and provide for a
qualitative/quantitative analysis of the observed flow.
