| Since 1973, the University of
Surrey has been part of MSUs undergraduate exchange
program. The University of Surrey, one of Britains
newer universities, is located in Guildford, thirty miles
south of London. This multi-disciplinary program is open
to all engineering majors interested in an outstanding,
full academic year experience. MSU students take regular
courses with British students and have the opportunity
to explore Londons historical sites as well as Guildfords
castle and famous cobblestone High Street.

Germany |

Summer Semester
An exceptional opportunity for Mechanical Engineering
students at MSU exists with
of the MSU-RWTH (Aachen) Program. Students who have met the stringent academic and self-discipline/self-reliant
criteria for acceptance will study and conduct research
(ME 490) at one of Europe's premier technical universities:
The Rheinisch Westfalische Technische Hochschule (RWTH).
Students will study the German language in the
stimulating environment where it is spoken and daily
life provides daily practice. It is expected that all
students will have taken GRM 101 (or equivalent) and
be in the GRM 102 or higher level course. The typical
student will be enrolled in ME 410, Heat Transfer, taught
using the MSU syllabus and text, by assistants of the
Heat Transfer Institute at the RWTH.
Most importantly, they will work in the research labs
of the RWTH on an ME 490 project. These projects place
them in close contact with their research hosts and,
through this connection, our students directly contact
the German university system. These contacts allow them
to learn how different that system is from our own.
An added benefit, embraced by past participants, is
to execute this 12-credit study program with opportunities
to travel in Europe on the planned three-day weekends.

| Kaiserslautern,
Germany |
| During 1992, the College
of Engineering signed an agreements with the University
of Kaiserslautern to exchange students and scholars. The
agreement was developed for Electrical Engineering, Computer
Engineering and Computer Science students.
Usually 8-10 MSU students study at Kaiserslautern
during early May to late July period. Students generally
enroll in about 7-12 credits that are chosen from
several Electrical Engineering courses taught in English,
and a course "German Language and Culture for
Foreigners"
taught in German. Last year a German IAH component
was added.

| Cassino,
Italy |
|
Cassino, Italy, About 50 km south of Rome is one of the many romantic cities in Italy.
On the mountain overlooking the city stands the Abbey of Montecassino which symbolizes
the endurance and resilience of the Christian faith. This abby is of special importance
because it has been destroyed and rebuilt on four separate occasions, the most recent was
in 1944 near the end of WWII.
Highlights:
The Monte Cassino Monastery was founded by St. Benedict about 529 A.D. on the remnants of a
pre-existing Roman fortification of the Municipum Cesium. The heathen cult was still practiced
on this mountain site in the temple of Apollo and in a nearby holy grove to which a
sacrifice area was adjoining.
Rome is assessable by train within an hour and a half of Cassino.

Summer 2007 closed
Sponsored by the Department of Mechanical Engineering
in the College of Engineering
Arranged through the Office of Study Abroad (OSA)
What's this program about?
École Catholique d'Arts et Métiers (ECAM) is a school of engineering
for undergraduate and graduate students with a main focus on mechanical and
electrical/electronic & automation engineering. It was founded in Reims,
France in 1900 and has been established in Lyon, France since 1940. A member
of the National Conference of “Grandes Ecoles” and accredited by
the government, it has been sanctioned by the National Commission of Engineering
Qualifications. ECAM is located in the very heart of the city, mid-slope of
the historical and green Fourviere Hill.
What can I study?
Students will be required to enroll for
a minimum of three (3) credits. They will perform a research
project (independent study) guided by a Mechanical Engineering
professor. Three credits must be taken that will count
as non-design electives for ME majors.
