Shantanu Chakrabartty receives a National Science Foundation grant for developing computational biosensors by integrating CMOS and bio-electronics. This project focuses on developing a forward-error-correcting multi-array biosensor based on molecular bio-wires. Based on previous work on conductometric immunosensors they propose to build a network of molecular switches using conductive polyaniline as a transducer for detecting binding events between antigens and their target antibodies. Daniel Laboy Receives MSGC Fellowship to Develop New Robot
Daniel Laboy, a sophomore in computer engineering and a member of the Smart Microsystems Laboratory (SML), has won a Michigan Space Grant Consortium (MSGC) Fellowship. The $2,500 award will support Daniel's research on an artificial muscle-based Tetwalker robot for future space exploration in the 2006-2007 academic year.

The Koenig Endowed Chair in Communications
The ECE department has established the Koenig Endowed Chair in Communications. The department is undergoing an expansion in the area of communications, and the Koenig Endowed Chair in Communications is targeted at an internationally renowned individual in the general area of communications.
