Welcome to the web pages of the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering at Michigan State University. The
Department has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and
research and is proud of its reputation as one of the premier
programs in electrical and computer engineering. I hope these
web pages will convince you that we continue to take our
mission of providing an outstanding environment for training the
next generation of students and researchers very seriously.
Our research activities have witnessed unprecedented levels of
growth in recent years. Our faculty members are leaders in their
chosen field and are highly respected by their peers. We are
fortunate to have a single building house all the departments in
the College of Engineering. The physical proximity has helped
promote interdisciplinary research with faculty members from
other departments. Our faculty and students work shoulder-to-
shoulder with their counterparts, for example, in the Chemical
Engineering Department in developing nanowires. Our
collaborations with research groups outside the College and
University have also mushroomed as research issues become
multifaceted and people outside our discipline begin to seek
engineering solutions to their problems.
We take pride in our keeping curricula current in recognition of
the dynamic nature of our field and the evolving needs of our
stakeholders. Our undergraduate and graduate enrollments
continue to grow despite our highly selective admissions
criteria. This, I believe, is recognition of the quality of our
programs.
