StarOffice is a cross-platform office productivity suite. StarOffice is similar to popular office suites such as Microsoft Office and Corel Suite.
With most of the components listed below, StarOffice can open files created by other productivity suites, such as Corel Suite and Microsoft Office. However, these files are not guaranteed to keep their previous format when opened with StarOffice. Some components may not be 100% compatible with this package.
StarOffice 6.0 is available on all of the DECS UNIX machines. Running StarOffice does not require you to add anything to your .cshrc file. However, to run StarOffice, you will need to have about 5 Mb of space in your home directory. The first time you run StarOffice, it will install the necessary files for future use.
To install/open StarOffice, type:
soffice
at a UNIX prompt.
To change the pathname on where to store your document, go to:
Tools --> options --> general --> paths --> mydocument
From there you can set the pathname to your home directory.
If you want to add an additional printer to the selection in Star Office, at the unix prompt type '/opt/staroffice6.0/spadmin'. Then click on the button for New Printer. You will be prompted for the model and command line for printing. You may change the options (tray, default font, etc.) after setup. Now click OK and exit the printer setup. When prompted, make sure you save your settings.
